New student residence in Arcadia ready for occupation in early 2016

Eastwood Village adds more beds to meet Pretoria’s student accommodation needs.

August 2015, Pretoria – It may be a building site now, but Eastwood Village will welcome students from the University of Pretoria (UP) and the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) when classes start in 2016.

“Pretoria is home to a vibrant student community, and there is an ongoing need for appropriate accommodation that supports their academic and social needs,” says Craig McMurray, CEO of Respublica. “Eastwood Village is the fifth student residence in our portfolio, and we built it in direct response to the city’s need for environments where students can focus on their studies, and enjoy the best that university life has to offer.”

Eastwood Village, located at 828 Arcadia Street, will accommodate 538 students in 78 upmarket apartments, offering the independence that is synonymous with a university residence, along with the sense of fun and camaraderie that come with living in a tight-knit community. Even though it is within walking distance of the UP campus, Eastwood Village has been carefully located along bus routes leading to both UP and TUT, giving students a range of options to travel to lectures.

The complex also has a canteen, recreation rooms, a gym, a computer laboratory and study rooms, making sure that there’s a space to do anything that students need to, whether it’s socialising, studying, or keeping fit and healthy.

Eastwood Village offers all the modern amenities that students need, including access to WiFi and an integrated residence life programme to help them ease into their new way of life away from home.

“We’re taking applications for space at Eastwood Village for the new academic year already, because we know that many students are already looking for an alternative accommodation solution when they return to classes in 2016,” says McMurray. “It’s also time for the 2015 class of matrics to start getting ready for their first year of tertiary education, and Eastwood Village is a great option as most universities simply do not have enough accommodation on campus.”

Respublica is South Africa’s leading developer, owner and manager of student accommodation. Its portfolio of residences includes Saratoga Village and The Fields in Doornfontein, which provide accommodation for University of Johannesburg, Central Johannesburg College and University of the Witwatersrand students.

In Pretoria, West City and Urban Nest facilities accommodate students from TUT and UP, as well as from various other colleges in the area. Respublica is engaged in numerous other projects across the country which are at various stages of development and will be announced in due course.
